Balance is at the centre of Elena Frampton's design ethos. Her innate ability to shape space goes back to a childhood of balancing two worlds, between her maternal Mexican family in Los Angeles and the Midwestern farm of her father's side. Following two decades of work at prestigious NY-based design firms, Elena Frampton founded her interior design studio and art advisory firm, Frampton Co, in 2015.
A design approach focused on pragmatism, and expressive personality translates into Frampton's bespoke design with The Rug Company, Undercover. Inspired to bring an element of the three-dimensional to a typically two-dimensional object, Elena Frampton designed Undercover using a trompe l'oeil effect. The design marries optical illusion with traditional ornamentation, as a floral-patterned rug appears to peel back from the floor at opposing corners, offering both a decorative and architectural statement within the interior space. Undercover is entirely customizable to suit the scheme of any interior.
"I wanted to explore a design with a three-dimensional quality that brings dynamic energy to the space, which is how we landed on this trompe l'oeil with a twist."
- Elena Frampton
Frampton Co's wholly integrated vision for living artfully comes to life at their gallery space, Exhibition The Barn in Bridgehampton. Optic Garden, presented at Exhibition The Barn throughout July 2023, echoes the inspiration behind Undercover, recontextualizing form, function, and ornamentation in the display.
"By taking the rugs off of the floor and onto the wall, we're able to explore the designs in an different, architectural way." - Elena Frampton
