Discover the world of Mary Katrantzou

We’re thrilled to introduce our latest collection in collaboration with celebrated Greek fashion designer Mary Katrantzou. Having grown up in Athens with an interior designer mother and a textile engineer father, Katrantzou’s love for all things design started at a very young age.

Originally destined to work in interiors, Katrantzou studied architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design before switching to textile design at Central Saint Martins. Her graduation collection took the industry by storm with trompe l’oeil prints and oversized jewellery on jersey-bonded dresses and she was quickly dubbed ‘The Queen of Print’ by the fashion cognoscenti.

Refining her signature aesthetic, Katrantzou has expanded the complexity of her textile beyond print, translating her visuals to knit, digital craftsmanship, and now rugs.

“It was interesting to take patterns that were once wrapped around a female figure and remove them from that silhouette, where they can exist in their purest form.”

The Collection

Featuring seven uniquely vibrant rugs, this collection is Katrantzou’s first foray into the world of interiors. Inspired by the bold and imaginative designs for which her eponymous brand is renowned, the rugs are reimagined for this collaboration from her past collections.

Our three new enlarged blooming additions; Bluebell Daydream, Garden of Eden and Botanical Paradise take cues from Katrantzou’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection ‘Nostalgia’ and more specifically from her childhood ‘paint-by-numbers’ books. Sunray Nude and Sunray Pink draw inspiration from the art of enamel while radiating dazzling light from the dramatic sun silk motif. Framis is vivid in colour and creates movement with its organic shapes.

“We are an image-led brand and print is so transferable across different disciplines. Being able to create context beyond my runway collections and build a lifestyle brand has always been my intention. Filtered beauty through design can impact how we feel whether it’s through what we choose to wear or what we choose to surround ourselves with. I chose to collaborate with The Rug Company as there was an authentic synergy between the two brands - a genuine appreciation for craftsmanship and a passion for bold patterns and unique beauty, values which we share at Mary Katrantzou.”
