The Silhouette rug reflects Hayon’s signature artistic style.
The intricate and highly decorative design demands the use of an extremely fine knot count to render Hayon’s precise drawing lines and fine shading.
The wool silhouette sits in relief above the shorter silk pile, which beautifully translates the delicate nature of the floral, whimsical design.
Silhouette is available from stock in a range of sizes.
The works of Spanish designer Jaime Hayon have put him at the forefront a new wave of creators that blur the lines between art, decoration and design.
He was born in Madrid in 1974. As a teenager, he submerged himself in skateboard culture and graffiti art - the foundation of the bold-yet-whimsical imagery so prevalent in his work today. After studying industrial design in Madrid and Paris he joined Fabrica in 1997, the Benetton-funded design and communication academy, and was shortly promoted to the head of their Design Department, where he oversaw projects ranging from shop, restaurant and exhibition conception and design to graphics. Eight years later, Jaime broke out on his own, first with collections of designer toys, ceramics and furniture, followed by interior design and installation. His work has been displayed in Germany’s Vitra Museum, London’s Design Museum, Rotterdam’s Vivid Gallery, the Gronginger Museum and the Basel Art Fair and has attracted the attention of prestigious art collectors. He has won numerous awards including ‘Best Installation’ (Icon Magazine), ‘Breakthrough Creator’ (Wallpaper Magazine) and the 2006 Elle Deco International Award. In 2008, Jaime was guest of honor at Belgium’s Interieur Biennial, the youngest person ever to receive the accolade.
Jaime Hayon’s rug collection captures his creative energy and singular vision; each one reflects his offbeat imagination and irreverence for conventional design.
This rug is entirely handmade, from the spinning of the yarns to the weaving on the loom. It is unique, and has been crafted by weavers in the Kathmandu area, whose skills have been passed down through many generations. We use only the finest natural yarns; the Tibetan wool is renowned for its softness and durability, while the fine silk brings a delicate lustre that enhances the design of the rug. To this we have added the vision of a world class designer, and the result is a hand knotted contemporary rug of extraordinary beauty which will itself become an heirloom to be treasured for years to come.
