Designer story

Los Angeles based interior designer and tastemaker Kelly Wearstler has become a household name for her luxurious and glamorous designs.

As the visionary behind her eponymous studio, Wearstler has primed the lifestyle and design experiences for international and domestic resorts and hotels, including the Viceroy properties in Santa Monica, Palm Springs, Miami and, most recently, Anguilla, as well as select offices, restaurants, retail environments and residences for high-profile and celebrity clientele.

Wearstler’s design language balances the highly decorative, the strikingly graphic and the enticingly glamorous. Her projects always celebrate the power of colour and pattern in an interior and pay homage to timeless notions of sophistication. Each one reflects her distinctive personal style, and offers a captivating design experience.

Wearstler has received numerous accolades, including being named one of the elite "Design 100" by Time Style & Design.  She also served as a judge on the Bravo network's interior design competition series, "Top Design".  She is now the driving force behind a national brand encompassing interior, product and fashion design.

The Rug Company launched the Kelly Wearstler rug collection in 2008, a visionary eight-piece collection of rugs that adapt to different spaces and interior schemes; the designs can look transitional and contemporary, or neutral and timeless, according the the space in which they are placed.

“I gathered inspiration from a range of different sources; from my collection of vintage trims and wallcoverings, the tiny details of a button that I found at an old haberdashery in Paris, to the natural textures and contours of a beautiful seashell. My goal was to create designs that are unique, so I was thrilled to have had the opportunity to do so with The Rug Company.” Kelly Wearstler

Craftsmanship

This rug is entirely handmade, from the spinning of the wool to the weaving on the loom. It is unique, and has been crafted by weavers in the Kathmandu area, whose skills have been passed down through many generations. We use only the highest quality wool for our rugs, that of the Tibetan sheep, for its durability, rich texture and subtle colour variation. To this we have added the vision of a world class designer, and the result is a hand knotted contemporary rug of extraordinary beauty, which will itself become an heirloom to be treasured for years to come.
