About this Design

My rugs display modern, abstracted patterns of their respective square and oval shapes, with varying pile heights for a richer more dynamic texture, they come in both silver and gold color schemes. David Rockwell

Designer story

With a desire to entertain both the eye and the individual, the projects of world-class US architect David Rockwell are united by their lively design narratives.

The son of a vaudeville dancer and a choreographer, Rockwell’s unusual upbringing has led to a fascination with the theatrical and an eccentricity which permeates his creations. With projects ranging from fine hotels and restaurants to Broadway musicals and product design, Rockwell’s approach combines powerful design and craftsmanship, while always aiming to create the possibility for pleasure.

Rockwell’s rug collection for The Rug Company is based on graphic and textural explorations derived from his diverse projects; the designs are at the same time sophisticated and playful.

Craftsmanship

This rug is entirely handmade, from the spinning of the yarns to the weaving on the loom. It is unique, and has been crafted by weavers in the Kathmandu area, whose skills have been passed down through many generations. We use only the finest natural yarns; the Tibetan wool is renowned for its softness and durability, while the fine silk brings a delicate lustre that enhances the design of the rug. To this we have added the vision of a world class designer, and the result is a hand knotted contemporary rug of extraordinary beauty which will itself become an heirloom to be treasured for years to come.
