Since her arrival in the fashion world in 1972, Diane von Furstenberg has captivated the industry with her exceptional vision and iconic designs.
Responsible for empowering millions of women around the world to celebrate their femininity, her designs are loved for their distinctive prints and confident colours translated in luxurious fabrics.
In 2003, Diane ventured for the first time into the interiors world with her exclusive collection for The Rug Company. Colour, pattern and quality are seminal to Diane’s designs, so to find her inspiration, she turned to her archive rich with iconic prints. The result was a five-piece collection of instantly recognizable and sensual rugs, Funky Zebra, Royal Leopard, Grand Rose, Spiral Hearts and Bishop’s Cape. Two years later, the DvF collection expanded with Tribal Diamond, Leopard and Climbing Leopard.
The designs became trailblazers in the industry; Bishop’s Cape played with the quality, luster and texture of wool and silk yarns, using the innovative technique of a raised silk motif on a wool background. Climbing Leopard, on the other hand, redefined the luxury rug as the first all-silk, 150-knot design. Both concepts have since been widely adopted and admired.
From the moment it launched, the Diane von Furstenberg rug collection seduced with its witty patterns, which are at the same time sexy and sophisticated. Responding to ever-increasing demand for the designs, the collection is still growing with the introduction of new colourways and threads, confirming their status as the ultimate in luxurious, timeless decoration for the floor.
This rug is entirely handmade, from the spinning of the wool to the weaving on the loom. It is unique, and has been crafted by weavers in the Kathmandu area, whose skills have been passed down through many generations. We use only the highest quality wool for our rugs, that of the Tibetan sheep, for its durability, rich texture and subtle colour variation. To this we have added the vision of a world class designer, and the result is a hand knotted contemporary rug of extraordinary beauty, which will itself become an heirloom to be treasured for years to come.
