Iconic potter, designer, author, and personality Jonathan Adler is dedicated to bringing style, craft and positivity to the home. Adler launched his first ceramic collection in 1993 at Barneys New York. Five years later he expanded into home furnishings, opening his first namesake boutique in Manhattan. Jonathan Adler now has more than twenty stores worldwide.
While remaining committed to ceramic design, Jonathan has now grown far beyond the potter’s wheel to become an internationally recognised design brand.
Jonathan’s creativity is fuelled by various sources of inspiration: Mid-century modern, art and global pop culture combine to create the signature Adler aesthetic. The company prides itself on its ability to combine a serious design philosophy with a colourful sense of optimism. The guiding motto, “If your heirs won’t fight over it, we won’t make it,” reflects Jonathan’s commitment to impeccable craftsmanship and irreverent luxury.
When Christopher and Suzanne Sharp were looking for a designer to contribute to The Rug Company’s new Studio Collection, a collection that focusses on clarity over intricacy, they wanted a designer who understood the language of design, the significance of craft and the authority of colour.
Jonathan Adler was an easy choice. He has designed a 9 piece collection of rugs featuring his signature geometric patterns and bright colour palettes. Each rug is handmade using thick lustrous threads of Tibetan wool which, when knotted, produce a wonderfully dense texture.
