Ritzy business

As part of the ‘Simply Magnificent: A Showcase of Homes’, the Ritz Carlton-Residences in Chicago invited designers from around the world to create an ultra-luxury apartment in their own distinctive style.

London-based interior designer Samantha Todhunter commissioned watercolour artist James Gordon to help bring the scheme for her Ritz Carlton-Residence to life. Starting her career at Vogue Living Australia, Todhunter worked in design for ten years before establishing her eponymous interior design company in 2005.

Tara Bernerd’s Papillon rug in the living room helps the fusion of contemporary and classic.

“The large silk and wool butterfly draws attention, which is just what I wanted”, says Todhunter.

The Sellarsbrook Yellow rug by Suzanne Sharp in used in the dining room, and works in harmony with the bright and fresh palette.

“I try to balance traditional and classic, and then infuse it with little crazy pops of acid yellow, edamame green, and blues. I’m not a purist, a total modernist, but I love to mix it up”, she says.

For the bedroom, Todhunter chose Vivienne Westwood’s Magnolia Silk rug – the perfect choice for a simple, elegant and luxurious space.

Fabu! Love the yellow rim on the drapes in the dining room, yellow tip-o-the-beak in parrot art -- how it picks up the yellow in the rug. Oh, and love chandelier! Details, pls.
