Pattern in Manhattan

Fashion designer, Rug Company collaborator and all-round grande dame of glamour, Diane von Furstenberg has thrown open the doors of her Manhattan penthouse.

Inside is a veritable treasure trove of collectibles, colour and an undeniable passion for print.

Diane bought the vintage Salvador Dali sofa at auction, and the sconces are by André Dubreuil. The leopard-print rug is a customised version of Diane’s Leopard rug for The Rug Company.

We tweaked the colours of the original rug to suit the interior of the apartment and fit with the pop colours and antique furniture.

In the office/dining area, colourful Franz West chairs flank the large table covered in trinkets and pretty vignettes. Amongst the artwork on the windowsill is a Joan Miró drawing and a Francesco Clemente painting. The rug is Diane’s Leopard design, customised to fill the room and suit the colour schemes.

A Bert Stern photograph of Elizabeth Taylor hangs in the guest bedroom, and the rug is Diane’s Tribal Diamond design.

Photographs by Francois Halard, as featured in Sunday Times Style magazine.
