Kelly Wearstler’s new book Rhapsody is a chronicle of the designer’s most jaw-droppingly striking and glamourous projects. For the featured interiors, we worked together with Wearstler to create the perfect rugs for each room, designed to fit with the interior schemes and custom-made to fit wall-to-wall.
In the living room of this Bel Air mansion, Wearstler designed the rug in keeping with the overall palette of the room. The energy of the graphic design makes a statement, while the muted tones complement the retro furniture without clashing.
Wearstler’s use of velvet and leather creates an interplay of texture, and along with the vintage chairs, makes for a striking tableau. The vintage wall lights were salvaged from a Roman cinema.
In the master bedroom, Wearstler designed a rug to complement the black and white cubic interior scheme. Wearstler’s new Chromagraph rug is based on the design done for this project.
In the study, Wearstler uses a custom-made striped monochrome rug to give the room a dynamic energy. The scheme is punctuated with raspberry leather chairs and bright artwork and antiques, each element holding its own and allowing it to coexist with such a striking floor.
“The rug in this study has such beautiful movement”, says Kelly.
The Serpent wall covering is derived from Kelly’s original Serpent rug.
